Jennifer Zunic - Principal

My name is Jennifer (Jenn) Zunic. I am currently in my third year as the Principal of Elroy Elementary School, where I am dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. My background includes over a decade of experience in education, with nine years spent as a Life Skills Support teacher in Pittsburgh Public Schools.

I am currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh, driven by my passion for educational leadership and my desire to continually improve the quality of education within my community. My academic journey includes an undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education from Waynesburg College, a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, and a second master’s in Special Education from Edinboro University. I also completed my Supervisor of Special Education and Principal K-12 certifications at Edinboro University.

Outside of my professional life, I am devoted to my family. My husband and I are proud parents of three boys: Scott (22), Zachary (12), and Levi (5). In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time at our family’s camp during the summer.

Hi! I am Miss Emily and I am the secretary at Elroy! I have been here for two years now. I graduated from Allegheny College with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, and I am currently going back to school to get my Master's Degree in School Counseling. In my free time I am always doing something active or watching the Yankees and Steelers win!! I am looking forward to this school year! 

Trish Bubacz - Paraprofessional

Hello families!  I’m Miss. Trish. I have been with the district since 2019, and have been at Elroy since 2021. I am a paraprofessional in the life skills room! I have a masters in education with a specialization in autism and applied behavioral analysis. When I’m not at school I am home with my two little boys or spending time with my family. I am looking forward to seeing you all this school year! 

Christina Dietz - Kindergarten

Hello!  My name is Christina Dietz and I teach Kindergarten here at Elroy.  I have been teaching in the district for over 20 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Reading.  In my free time you can find me keeping busy with my family. My husband and I have been married for 25 years and we have two daughters and a mini-Goldendoodle pup.  As an educator, I strive to create an environment where my students enjoy learning.

Jamie Dobson - Fourth Grade

Hi!  I am Jamie Dobson and am the 4th grade science, social studies, and grammar teacher at Eroy. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Pitt and a master's degree in special education from Waynesburg University.  While my career began in Maryland teaching 2nd grade, I have found my home here in Brentwood and am excited to begin my 18th year teaching.  Twelve of those years have been spent working with the students at Elroy Elementary School!  I have two children that keep both my husband and I busy.  Both of my children are involved in sports, so I enjoy spending time outside cheering on my kids during their sporting events, but my favorite thing to do is to travel to the beach!

Sheri Duing - Fifth Grade

Hello!  My name is Sheri Duing.  I have been teaching at Elroy Elementary for over 25 years!  Many of these years have been as the fifth grade math teacher.  I attended Elroy as a child before graduating from Brentwood High School.  After graduation, I attended the University of Pittsburgh to earn my undergraduate degree in Sociology.  I then attended graduate school at PITT to receive my Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching. More recently, I acquired a STEM certificate from California University of Pennsylvania.

In my free time I like to read, hike, travel, cheer on the Steelers, and spend time with my family.  I currently reside in South Park with my husband, two boys, and my dog, Soxy. I tell my students each year that fall is my favorite season because it is the beginning of a new football season, the weather turns cooler, and I get to meet a wonderful new group of students! 

Taylor Fahrner - Special Education - Life Skills K-5

Hello! My name is Taylor Fahrner and I am the Life Skills teacher at Elroy. This is my 9th year teaching and 7th year in the Brentwood School District. I graduated from Seton Hill University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. I received my Master’s degree in Secondary Special Education from PennWest. I live in Plum with my husband and 8 month old son, Leo. In my free time I love to shop, scrapbook, and travel to my favorite place, Disney World! I am looking forward to another great school year!

Amy Ferkett - Reading Specialist

My name is Amy Ferkett. I am the Title I Reading Specialist at Elroy. I help assess the reading skills and teach students reading in small groups from Kindergarten through 5th grade. I have taught at Elroy in various positions since 2001. I love to read and to help others learn the joy of reading as well!

I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, watching movies, and listening to music. I love going to the beach, museums, and musicals.

Jennifer Floodstrom - Fifth Grade

Welcome! I'm Jenn Floodstrom- Elroy's 5th grade ELA teacher. This is my second year at Elroy, but my 23rd year of teaching overall. I love reading and writing, and my goal is always to have students increase their pleasure and skills in both of those. I earned my Bachelor's degree at Syracuse University and received my Master's degree from Tennessee State University.

When I'm not at Elroy, I'm at home with my family. Cass and I have a son named Eric and a house FULL of Legos. We also have a cat and a hairless guinea pig. In 2020, our family moved from Nashville, Tennessee, to Pittsburgh, which brought Cass back to her hometown!

Karri Forsyth - Second Grade

MyMy name is Karri Forsyth and I teach 2nd grade, here at Elroy!  I earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Edinboro University, and my master’s degree in education from Waynesburg University.  I am certified to teach Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education. This is my sixteenth year at Elroy Elementary School.      

Personally, I have been married for 32 glorious years and have two wonderful children who are 27 and 29 years old.  

I enjoy reading, music, riding horses, and spending time with family and friends.     I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures growth in a positive, fun environment. 

Mindy Golvash - Third Grade

This is my 30th year as a third grade teacher at Elroy Elementary!  I've spent the entire duration of my career in this amazing position! I teach English Language Arts (ELA) to both 3rd grade classes. In addition to fantastic students, I also have an amazing family. My husband Dan, a special education teacher at Brentwood High School, my daughter Bailey, a recent Duquesne graduate and new teacher, and my son Evan, a 10th grade student at Baldwin High School. I also have an adorable beagle named Toby!

I love sports, especially cheering on the Pirates and the Steelers. I also love basketball when I get to watch my son or Steph Curry play! I have a lifelong passion for dance including many years of teaching, watching my daughter perform, and participating in Zumba workout classes. My happy place is being on the sunny beach with my whole family! 

Jessica Graff - Art

Mrs. Jessica Graff is starting her fifth year at Elroy. Mrs. Graff received her undergraduate degree in Art and Art Education from Penn State University. She began her teaching career in the Pittsburgh Public School District and taught there for almost four years. Mrs. Graff and her husband moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she continued to teach art for another three years. When we started to miss Pittsburgh, we moved back to Whitehall. Mrs. Graff received her master’s degree in Art Education in the spring of 2015 and went on to teach at Baden Academy until 2019. In her spare time, Mrs. Graff enjoys reading, traveling, cycling, spending time with family, and visiting art museums. 

MIranda Kirby - Paraprofessional

Hello, I’m Miranda Kirby, a Southern Illinois University-Carbondale graduate with a degree in Elementary Education.  I started with Elroy as a substitute teacher and will be joining this year as a paraeducator. Prior to Elroy, I enjoyed several years teaching at the preschool level. I have two sons in the Brentwood School District who keep their father and I very busy with their extracurricular activities.  In my spare time, I love gardening, hiking with my family and dog, and helping coach. 

Mara Letterle - Music

Hello! I am the elementary music teacher, 4th and 5th grade band and choir director and the assistant director of the Brentwood High School marching band. I have my B.S in music education and a B.A. in Theater from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I perform professionally around the Pittsburgh area as a solo performer, a member of the Belle Voce choir, and the section leader and soloist for Third Presbyterian Church in Shadyside. I am coming to Brentwood from Arlington K-8 in the Pittsburgh Public School District where I have taught music for the past 3 years. I am excited to be part of your student’s musical journey!

Leslie Maiden - Paraprofessional

Hello, I'm Leslie Maiden, a Paraprofessional at Elroy since the spring of 2022. I have been involved in special education for many years and spend most of my day in the lower grade levels and resource support classrooms. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening and spending time on my porch with my family, friends, and my dog, Rosie. When I have the chance to travel, some of my favorite places to visit are California, Chicago, and Maryland as they allow me to connect with family.

Hi! I'm Isabella Mileo, a paraprofessional at Elroy. Originally from New York City, I now live in Pittsburgh. I recently earned my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Duquesne University and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Special Education and Applied Behavioral Analysis.

I'm a big Disney enthusiast, and in my free time, I love traveling, collecting sports memorabilia, cooking, and going to sporting events and concerts. I also value the time I spend with family and friends.

Madison Mucci - School Counselor

My name is Madison Mucci and this is my first year at Elroy Elementary School! Previously, I have worked as a paraprofessional in an emotional support classroom for 4 years. I graduated from California University of PA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. My name is Ryan O’Connor and I teach health and physical education. This is my 8th year teaching in the Brentwood Borough SD. I was hired at Elroy Elementary in February 2020. I love watching and attending sport games. I am a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. I also enjoy traveling and being at a pool or the beach. I am excited to continue to educate your children while having a lot of fun in physical education this school year.

Jacelyn Pulleo - Kindergarten

Hello Elroy families!  My name is Jacelyn Pulleo and this will be my 17th year teaching kindergarten.  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Clarion University and a Master’s Degree in Education with a Reading Specialist certificate from California University.  When I am not at school, my two kids Joseph (18) and Gabby (15) keep myself and my husband (Steve) busy with their sports.  I enjoy spending time at the beach, and I also enjoy snuggles and walks with my yellow lab, Layla.   

Tracy Rittiger - Third Grade

I am a graduate of Brentwood High School. I now reside in Jefferson Hills with my husband, Hello, I am Mrs. Rittiger.  I teach 3rd grade Math, Social Studies, and Science.  This is my 32nd year of teaching in Brentwood School District, during which I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.  I grew up in Brentwood and am a graduate of Brentwood High School a long time ago.  I now reside in Jefferson Hills with my husband, Scott, youngest son, Tanner (20), and our 3 Labradors.  My oldest son Connor (28) lives in S. Park, while my middle son, Parker (24), lives in Connecticut.  I love spending time with family, fitness training, and floating in my swimming pool.  I enjoy listening to all kinds of music, walks on the beach, traveling and exploring new places, and most of all, getting to know my students! 

Kala Rodi - Speech and Language

My name is Kala Rodi and I am a certified Speech and Language Pathologist at Elroy Elementary. This will be my 5th year here at Brentwood Borough School District. I hold an undergraduate degree as well as a master’s degree in Communication Science Disorders from Clarion University, now known as Penn West University.

I am extremely passionate about helping children, both verbal and nonverbal, find their voice.  I work with students who exhibit the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice, and pragmatic (social) language. In addition, I specialize in working with (AAC) Augmentative Alternative Communication devices. Beyond being an educator, I am a fur mom to both a dog and a cat. They are best friends! My hobbies include being outside, gardening, and shopping. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my boyfriend, his daughter, friends, and family! 

Melissa Sauro - Second Grade

Hello Elroy! My name is Melissa Sauro and this is my 18th year teaching 2nd grade here at Elroy and my 21st year teaching in the Brentwood Borough School District.  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University.  I have 3 adult children.  My daughter Samanta works for Allegheny Health Network.  My son Lorenzo works for the Mt. Lebanon School District, and my son Aidan is a senior at West Virginia University and currently applying to medical school.  I am a bit of an animal lover owning 2 dogs and 3 cats.  I am also a huge football fan!  You can catch me on Friday nights cheering for my nephew’s high school football team, Saturday afternoons cheering on PSU and WVU and on Sundays cheering “Here we go Steelers”.  I love to spend the rest of my free time outdoors near water whether it is at the lake or in the pool.  I look forward to exciting school year! Kathryn Smeltz - Media Literacy

Hello Elroy Families! My name is Mrs. Smeltz, and I am the Media Literacy teacher at both Elroy and Moore Elementary buildings. In my classroom, we explore a mix of library, technology, and STEAM concepts, fostering a love for learning and discovery. With over 16 years of experience in the district, I love using approaches to make education both exciting and meaningful.

I hold an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and a Master’s in Business Education from Robert Morris University. When I’m not teaching, I love spending quality time with my husband and our three energetic kids. My hobbies include trying unique foods, baking with my children, camping, and embarking on family adventures. I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for learning with my students and their families!

Amy Smith - First Grade

My name is Mrs. Smith. I grew up in Brentwood and have been teaching in the district for twenty-four years. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, taking walks, watching funny movies, and playing card games. My Philosophy for teaching begins with me providing an honest, caring, and active atmosphere where students can feel comfortable and have fun learning. I will maintain academic progress through whole class and small group instruction, and provide individual support to all students as needed. Furthermore, hands-on learning opportunities will be  implemented whenever possible.

Cristy Stipetic - Nurse

My name is Cristy Stipetic. I am an Registered Nurse (RN), with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and recently obtained my Master of Education in School Health Services (M.Ed).This is my fourth year at Elroy, prior to being at Elroy I held various community nursing positions and worked at UPMC Magee. I am married to Jeff, and we have 3 children. Julia (21) is in her last year of college, Jeffrey (15) keeps us busy with wrestling and hockey, and Charlotte (6) loves to dance. When I am not at Elroy, our family enjoys spending time together camping, fishing, traveling, watching movies and staying busy with the kids’ activities! We have 2 dogs, Remy and Biscuit, a bearded dragon Hank, and 2 hermit crabs, Crabby and Christopher!

Hello! My name is Krista Tiglio and I teach learning support for students in third through fifth grade.  This will be my eleventh year teaching at Elroy.  I graduated from Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in elementary and special education.  I returned to Slippery Rock to complete my master’s degree program in math and science education.  In my free time I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

Spending time with my family is very important to me. I have two children and they keep us very busy! I enjoy going for walks, reading, and going out eat with my family and friends. 

Jeff Wastchak - First Grade

I have been teaching at Brentwood for 15 years and this will be my 8th year teaching first grade at Elroy.  I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education and a minor in elementary mathematics from Slippery Rock University.  I attained my master’s degree in special education from Slippery Rock University.  When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife, three children, and my golden retriever.  My hobbies include bowling, golfing, camping, hiking, and watching sports. 

Megan Williams - K-2 Learning Support

 My name is Megan Williams, Learning Support Teacher, grades K-2.  This will be my 9th year teaching at Elroy; however, this is my 20th year as a special education teacher. I graduated college from Carlow University, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in education, with a dual certification in special education, grades K-12, and elementary education, grades K-6 grade. I also achieved a master's degree in education with a specialization in applied behavioral analysis- autism track.  I am currently obtaining my license to be certified as a licensed behavioral specialist.      

Before teaching at Elroy, I worked at an alternative school teaching students with Autism and Emotional support.  I then worked at the Penn Hills School District as an Emotional Support Teacher until I started working at Elroy. I live in Jefferson Hills with my husband, my 15-year-old son, and our two labs, Dexter and Chance. In our free time, we love to listen to our son play his guitar, go to his concerts, hike, swim, and travel. I am looking forward to another great year at Elroy!   

Sydney Yanchik - Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Sydney Yanchik and I am the 4th grade math teacher at Elroy. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in STEAM Education. This will be my 3rd year here at Brentwood. I grew up right around the corner in Baldwin but now found my new home in Carnegie. I have a one year old Golden Retriever named Ollie. If I’m not working or with my Ollie I am outside with friends or trying new places to eat.
